Ligature publishes books under different imprints, depending largely on their previous publication history. Our aims are to develop and publish new books; to make sure that our authors’ backlists are always available; and to help spread those parts of our literary heritage that have entered the public domain.
Ligature first is for new books published for the first time · We are always looking for new books from both new writers and writers with a previous publishing history who wish to publish electronically with Ligature. You can submit your manuscript here.
Ligature finest is for new editions of previously-published books · These may be out of print, or they may not yet be available as e-books. We are currently seeking books whose rights have reverted to their authors or whose electronic rights were never sold. You can submit your book here.
Ligature fifty is for classic books in the public domain · Many of these have had their copyright expire under the old fifty-year rule that made many essential works freely available. These books are here to download free to give you an idea of our house style and design. We are always adding to our collection and appreciate recommendations for books in the public domain.
Untapped: The Australian literary heritage project is a project with the University of Melbourne that is researching the impact of e-lending in libraries. Ligature is proud to be the publishing partner to the project, helping to digitise classic works of Australian literature whose rights have reverted to the authors or their estates. The project launched in December 2021 with 161 titles, and we hope there’ll be more to come.
